Bob Nelson: Leading the Charge in Sustainability

On December 9, 2024, Bob Nelson was recognized at the Automotive News All-Star awards. Under Nelson's leadership, Honda is working toward its Triple Action to Zero strategy, aiming for zero environmental impact by 2050 through carbon neutrality, resource recycling, and clean energy initiatives.

Nelson commented on the award: "It is an honor for me to lead this companywide effort that involves an incredible team of creative and passionate Honda associates who are working to realize our goal of zero environmental impact.” While acknowledging the challenges ahead, Nelson expressed optimism that Honda would meet its goal by 2050 or earlier.

Nelson began his journey with Honda at the Marysville Auto Plant in Ohio and has since taken on numerous roles, including in manufacturing. He played a pivotal role in establishing Honda's first sustainability award for suppliers. Today, Nelson's responsibilities span human resources and business operations while maintaining a clear focus on the company's environmental targets.

As chair of the Honda North American environmental committee, Nelson coordinates strategies across 13 groups in the region. His leadership has been crucial in managing the complex operations needed to meet Honda's environmental goals.
