Honda Celebrates 50 Years of Research and Development in America

Honda is known for its technical innovation, and this 50th anniversary highlights five decades of American-based engineering. The celebration goes beyond cars, recognizing Honda's achievements in aerospace, aviation, and power equipment as well.

Looking Back in History

Honda's U.S. research program began in 1975 with its first facility in Southern California. This center played a key role in product testing and developing the advanced safety features Honda is known for today. From one location, Honda has grown to over 20 R&D sites across the country, leading the way in research, safety testing, and material innovation.

Honda's Current R&D Facilities

Honda now operates advanced R&D facilities in key locations across the United States, including Colorado, Michigan, Indiana, Florida, Ohio, South Carolina, North Carolina, and California.

These R&D centers all share the same goal: to design and build Honda and Acura vehicles and equipment that are safe and technologically advanced. Together, they engineer about 40 different Honda and Acura models. Honda's commitment to innovation has earned the brand awards like North American Truck of the Year, as well as recognition for its powersports products and the HondaJet.

Honda's Advanced Research

Honda is looking ahead by focusing on research in carbon capture, nanotechnology, and quantum systems. The company is also exploring new battery technology and hydrogen fuel cells to stay at the forefront of energy innovation. Honda is working to improve software for drivers and create mobility options for people with physical limitations.
