Specs at a Glance
Around since 1994, the Honda Odyssey has solidified its position as perhaps the top minivan around. Avoiding the uncool aura that generally plagues the sector, the Odyssey is not just favored for its comparatively aggressive styling, but also its remarkable handling and high level of reliability and construction. The fifth production cycle of the Honda Odyssey was introduced for the 2018 model year, and it enters 2019 unchanged. It is still split into five trims, with the Elite and the LX on both ends of the spectrum as the top-level trim and the base-level one, respectively.
Blending Gas-Sipping and Power
Both Elite and LX trims of the 2019 Honda Odyssey are powered by a 3.5-liter V6, which generates 280 horsepower and 262 lb-ft of torque. The engine is paired with an automatic transmission with paddle shifters, although the one on the LX has nine gears and the one on the Elite has 10. Each trim comes with a traction management system that optimizes driving performance on snow, as well as an Eco Assistâ„¢ system for enhancing gas mileage. Using a front-engine front-wheel-drive layout, the Odyssey gets an estimated 19 mpg in the city and 28 mpg on the highway.
How Different are the Trims’ Appearance?
Following the design cues of the fourth-generation model, the 2019 Honda Odyssey provides an even more robust front fascia and sharp bending lines to define its exterior look. The minivan also gets black side sills. Multi-reflector halogen headlights, a rear-window wiper, taillights with integrated LED light bars, a roofline spoiler, and body-colored power side mirrors are also standard. On the Elite, you will get chrome door handles instead of black-finished ones, turn-signal indicators added on the side mirrors, and LED fog lights, a fin-type roof-mounted antenna, and a one-touch power moonroof with tilt feature.
Elite and LX Features: Which Ones are Must-Haves?
Although the 2019 Honda Odyssey has three rows of seats, the LX seats seven while the Elite seats eight. That’s because the LX has a pair of captain’s seats in the second row, rather than a bench-style seat similar to the third-row seating. At the front are an 8-way power-adjustable driver’s seat and a 4-way power-adjustment passenger seat. On the Elite, the front seats are upgraded with heating and ventilating ability; and 12-way power, 4-way power lumbar support, and a 2-position memory system on the driver’s seat. Also, on the Elite, all seats are leather-trimmed, and the steering wheel is leather-wrapped and heated.
Cruise control, active noise acoustic technology, remote keyless entry, push-button engine start, a 5-inch color LCD screen, a seven-speaker 160-watt audio system, a USB port and an audio jack for connecting portable media devices and a second USB port for charging them, hands-free wireless technology, and hands-free texting ability.
